What makes a design good?
In our last post we briefly discussed the importance of good design. What makes a design good? Is it a matter of opinion or taste? Sure, that definitely plays a part, but good in terms of affective. You won’t find everyone agreeing to what the best form of design is, certainly not. However, we can argue that there are certain factors that make a design effective. For example typography is hugely important in any type of design. Creating a hierarchy of information through font sizes and shapes leads us to process information accordingly. You can also argue that design is more than just words and images on a page but rather creating a certain sense of “feeling.” What do you want your audience to feel when they look at your design? Even if you’re looking at a simple business card, how it’s designed tells a lot of information about a person or a company.
